The project

A shop built around how people actually buy a joke present.

The Wrong Gift sells dark-humour ceramic mugs, printed to order in the UK. Its customers are rarely shopping for a specific product. They are shopping for a person and a date: a colleague at Secret Santa, a mate’s birthday, a leaving do on Friday.

So the shop is organised the way that decision is actually made. Alongside the usual product and collection structure, the catalogue is navigable by who the gift is for and by the occasion it is for, and the brand voice runs through the whole interface rather than sitting only on the homepage.

The product page

Enough detail to buy with confidence.

A gift shop lives or dies on the product page. Each one carries a zoomable image gallery, live stock status, quantity controls, the physical specification of the item, and clear answers to the two questions that stop a purchase: when will it arrive, and is checkout safe.

Related products and a recently viewed row keep browsing going after a customer has looked at one item, and the basket opens in place rather than interrupting the page.
